Purpose of the Role
In addition to fulfilling all criteria found on the OTM Driver/Fitter/Operator job description, the Team Leader will be a front-line manager; they will be responsible for all aspects of the management of the members of OTM region allocated to them. They will train and assess all other members of Colas Rail as directed and will provide adequate support and cover for the Regional Operations Manager.
Person Specification
- Previous working experience with OTM’s with extensive knowledge as a OTM Driver/Operator or Fitter/Operator or Multi-Skilled Operator
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Training, mentoring and coaching ability and willingness to train in these areas
- Positive attitude and thrives in a busy and pressurised environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication - ability to take the lead on safety critical reporting and safety critical/non-safety critical situations
- Analytical problem solver
- Flexible, honest & punctual – Able to work weekends, bank holidays and a mixture of days and nights as part of a 24/7 shift-based roster
- Willingness to stay away from home (at company expense) when required
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Excellent communication skills
- Good computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe) Full knowledge of UK Rail Operations and Standards

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Development
- Guiding and inspiring your team members to work in a professional and respectful manner.
- Hosting monthly team briefs, keeping your team up to date with company news and events.
- Conducting team Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) annually.
- Supporting and encouraging team training and development needs.
- Achieving high standards through determination, commitment, and motivation.
Safety and Compliance
- Influencing and ensuring a safe working environment for all.
- Encouraging safety conversations and close call reporting.
- Lead by example - All activities must be undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Reporting and Communication
- Ensuring the accurate reporting and recording of any real-time issues, including incidents, accidents, and environmental occurrences, in a professional and efficient manner, informing the appropriate parties within the correct timescales in accordance with company procedures.
- Responsible for machine service faults and failures being carried out and escalated to our maintenance department, communicating all issues affecting operational shift performance to relevant parties.
