Out of Hours Twilight Veterinary Surgeon | CVS Vets 24/7 – Chester

Location: Chester

Contract: Part Time, Annualised Hours – 22.17hrs average per week.

Practice Type: 24/7 ECC

Competitive Salary: Up to £70,000 (DOE) (FTE)


An exciting opportunity for an OOH Twilight Veterinary Surgeon to work alongside our friendly and experienced team at CVS Vets 24/7 Chester.

Life at CVS Vets 24/7 Chester

CVS Vets 24/7 Chester is a dedicated small animal emergency and out-of-hours service, providing exceptional care when pets need it most.

Based within Chestergates Veterinary Specialists, an RCVS-approved referral hospital, you'll work in a modern, fully equipped environment with access to advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities. This unique setting offers exposure to a diverse and rewarding caseload, combining the pace and variety of ECC work with the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team.

Our service provides 24-hour care for patients from our first opinion member practices, including the management of hospitalised veterinary inpatients. You'll have the opportunity to develop your emergency and critical care expertise while working alongside highly skilled colleagues and benefiting from access to on-call referral clinicians for additional support when required.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine passion for Emergency and Critical Care to join our dedicated night team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident small animal vet with at least 2 years of post-graduate experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys the challenge and variety that ECC brings. You'll be comfortable managing emergency presentations, inpatient care, medical workups and emergency surgical cases, whilst delivering a calm, reassuring experience for clients during some of their most difficult moments.

You will:

  • Have strong medical and surgical skills, with confidence managing emergency and critical care cases.
  • Enjoy working independently while knowing when to seek support and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Be passionate about delivering outstanding patient care and client service.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, referring practices and the wider veterinary team.
  • Take ownership of cases and be confident making clinical decisions in an out-of-hours setting.
  • Be motivated to continue developing your ECC knowledge and clinical expertise.

The Rota

  • 3 nights on, 7 nights off
  • 4 nights on, 7 nights off
  • Twilight shifts: 2:00pm - Midnight
  • Average of 22.17 hours per week
