To lead and coordinate the Gastroenterology outpatient follow-up booking service, ensuring that patients are booked efficiently, appropriately and within agreed clinical and Trust timescales. The post holder will take responsibility for the management and validation of outpatient follow-up waiting lists, ensuring that all booking requests are actioned promptly and in accordance with Trust policies and national waiting time standards. The post holder will work closely with Consultants, Nurse Specialists, Operational Managers and Administrative Teams to maximise clinic utilisation, identify capacity issues and ensure safe and effective patient pathway management. They will provide leadership and guidance to the follow-up bookings team and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for leading and coordinating the Gastroenterology outpatient follow-up booking service, ensuring patients are booked efficiently, accurately, and within Trust waiting time standards. The role involves managing outpatient reception and bookings staff, overseeing consultant waiting lists, validating patient pathways, monitoring clinic capacity and performance, and producing reports to support service delivery. Key responsibilities include managing appointments, cancellations and rescheduling, resolving booking and pathway issues, supporting backlog reduction initiatives, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies and Information Governance requirements. The post holder also provides leadership, training and workload support to the team, communicates effectively with patients and clinical staff, and promotes continuous service improvement while escalating risks and capacity concerns as required.

- Knowledge of RTT rules and pathway requirements
Desirable criteria
- Experience managing patient appointments, referrals, clinics, and follow-up bookings

- Strong IT skills, including use of patient administration systems such as Cerner, Millennium, PAS, eRS, or similar NHS systems

- Strong communication and customer service skills when dealing with patients, consultants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
