About The Role
SEND Inclusion Support are looking for an experienced and compassionate Outreach Nurture Mentor to provide pastoral, emotional, and nurture support to two young people with SEND and SEMH needs.
This is a relationship-led outreach role for someone who understands that, for some young people, feeling safe, understood, and supported has to come before they can fully engage with education.
You will work closely with two young people who experience SEND, SEMH needs, and anxiety, providing consistent support to help them build confidence, manage emotional barriers, and engage more positively with their education and wider community.
This is not a traditional classroom-based role. We are looking for someone who is confident working on an individual basis, adapting their approach around the young person's needs, and building a genuine relationship based on trust.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing 1:1 nurture, pastoral, and emotional support to two young people.
- Building strong, trusting, and consistent relationships.
- Supporting young people experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and barriers to education.
- Helping young people develop strategies to manage emotions, anxiety, and challenging situations.
- Supporting positive routines and encouraging engagement with education.
- Helping young people develop confidence, resilience, communication, and independence.
- Providing a calm, consistent, and safe presence.
- Understanding the needs behind behavior and responding in a patient, nurturing way.
- Adapting your approach according to each young person's individual needs, interests, and presentation.
- Working collaboratively with schools, families, and other professionals where appropriate.
- Maintaining clear and professional records of support and progress.
- Communicating effectively with the wider SEND Inclusion Support team.

About You
We are looking for someone who is warm, reliable, experienced, and genuinely passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
You will have substantial experience working with children or young people with SEND and SEMH, with particular experience supporting anxiety and emotional wellbeing.
You should be confident working independently and able to build a relationship with a young person who may have previously struggled to engage with education or other professionals.
Essential Requirements
- A degree-level qualification or equivalent, or HLTA-standard qualifications and experience.
- Extensive experience working with SEND and SEMH.
- Significant experience supporting young people with anxiety and emotional wellbeing needs.
- Experience providing pastoral, nurture, or emotional support.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A calm, patient, empathetic, and consistent approach.
- The ability to understand behavior as communication and look beyond the presenting behavior.
- Confidence working independently in an outreach setting.
- Appropriate Business Insurance for undertaking outreach work.
- Enhanced DBS, or willingness to complete the relevant safeguarding checks.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Working Pattern
The role will be delivered over 3-5 mornings per week, depending on the needs of the young people.
This is an outreach-based position, supporting two individual young people in a pastoral and nurture capacity rather than working as a traditional classroom-based teaching assistant.
The successful candidate will become an important part of each young person's support network, providing consistency and helping them make meaningful progress towards greater confidence, emotional wellbeing, and engagement with education.
