Job Description
The Outsourcing Project Lead role sits within SSTL’s Supply Chain organisation and will investigate & implement outsourcing options for Flight Bill of Material related subsystem equipment / services together with Consultancy and Contractor support roles across the whole of the Company’s business activities.
Key Tasks
- Identify areas of the business facing capacity issues (using available workload data along with feedback from Executive / Head of / Functional Manager interviews).
- Prioritise business areas requiring outsourcing measures to protect the critical paths of existing & expected mission projects.
- Assess available market outsourcing options for concerned business areas ensuring quality / cost / time / risk profile of transition is a viable match to support the technical / schedule & budgets of the existing & expected mission projects.
- Present outsourcing business cases to the Executive team to obtain endorsement.
- Drive implementation of approved outsourcing cases with relevant Engineering areas and the Subcontract Management team, focusing on the required scope of work and contractual conditions to minimise risk.
- Develop relationships with key outsourcing partners.
- Provide updates to the Project Management team with regards to project changes or risks / opportunities.
- Provide weekly status updates to the Executive team.
- Engage with the Airbus Space Systems Project lead for outsourcing to ensure best practice and shareholder updates on SSTL’s outsourcing progress.
- Develop processes, methodology and tools that enable outsourcing partnerships and work packages to be activated easily for both in-situ and ex-situ work.

Previous Experience
- Proven experience in Sub-Contracts / Complex Procurement, Project Management / Make vs Buy assessments, Business Performance Monitoring.
Qualifications Knowledge & Skills
- A degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Purchasing & Supply discipline.
- Experience within the space design and manufacturing industry is essential.
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, able to influence, persuade and negotiate with people at all levels (externally & internally) as well as to assist in reaching compromises when there are conflicting requirements.
- High degree of organisation, self-motivation and initiative.
- Good team working skills, together with the ability to interface with others at all levels.
- Good presentation skills and stakeholder facing skills.
- Results orientated with a strong drive to deliver.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Pro-active and able to take initiative.
- Excellent planning and organising skills.
- Highly organised with clear communication skills.
- Ability to work simultaneously on a variety of subjects.
- Able to work autonomously and using own initiative.

- Ability to multi-task and deliver both immediate and longer-term tasks.
- Proven ability to deliver solutions under pressure and to tight timescales.
- Good knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.

Location
The role is on-site based at our Head Office in Guildford.
