Job Title: P3M Specialist Manager - Project Controls - Submarines

Location: Derby

Working Pattern: Full Time / Permanent

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a P3M Specialist Manager - Project Controls to join our Submarine Business in Raynesway Derby.

Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance and through-life support.

What you will be doing

  • Being an authority in relation to a project controls and maintaining that status by continuing professional development and networking with like professionals across Rolls-Royce plc, within wider industry and within professional bodies.
  • Represent Rolls-Royce on behalf of the specialism within wider industry and professional bodies.
  • Lead and manage all aspects within functional strategy relating to project controls.
  • Escalate and manage the capabilities, competencies and training gaps needed by the wider project management community to support project controls.
  • Lead development of the project controls with regards to processes, tools and training.
  • Proactive improvement of supporting processes and performance of project controls in line with company management processes.
  • Coach and develop others in the wider business where appropriate in project controls including providing expert guidance and authoritative leadership to small teams, developing specialists in this field.
  • Lead, coach and manage a team of staff (if required as part of role.) Ensuring all team members have clearly defined roles and responsibilities and support the team in planning/prioritisation of activities.
  • Promote the general culture and professionalism of project management specialism throughout the Business.

Position Qualifications:

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles and for this role we are looking for someone with:

  • Is recognised as an expert in project controls.
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent industry experience.
  • Specialist functional/technical experience in earned value management - using appropriate tools/systems.
  • Able to communicate and articulate specialism in an easy and understandable manner.
  • Exposure to wider project management processes and understanding of how the specialism influences and is integrated to the project / programme / portfolio.
  • Can clearly demonstrate previous experience of their specialism and how it has influenced project outcome/delivery.
  • Ideally attained relevant specialist qualification i.e. EVM Practitioner.
  • Attained APM Project Management Qualification or can demonstrate equivalent PM knowledge.
  • Ideally a member of a professional body i.e. Association of Project Management MAPM / FAPM and working towards a Chartered Qualification i.e. ChPP.
  • Ideally at least 7 years experience in the management of projects / programmes with majority of years experience in specific specialism.
  • Strong people management and interpersonal skills, including experience in providing structured coaching and personal development of others.
  • Experience of setting up and managing multi-functional teams.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
