Basic circa £65,000 + commission and benefits | North of England | Ideally M62 corridor
You know packaging machinery. You know how to win business. What would make your next move worthwhile?
Good equipment to sell, technical colleagues you can rely on and the opportunity to build something you can put your name to. That’s the conversation we’d like to have with you.
About the company
An established manufacturer of automated packaging machinery, helping customers improve production through solutions developed around their requirements. They’re looking for an experienced Sales Manager who enjoys getting close to customers, understanding the application and working with an engineering team to develop the right solution. Someone who can build on existing relationships while opening doors in new markets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

There are two sides to this role: developing the customers who already know the business and earning the trust of those who don’t. If you enjoy the combination of engineering, relationships and commercial judgement that makes machinery sales rewarding, there’s plenty here to get your teeth into.
You’ll:
- Develop existing customer relationships and identify opportunities for further business.
- Build relationships with new customers and explore opportunities in new sectors.
- Work with engineering colleagues to understand requirements and develop suitable machinery solutions.
- Guide projects from the first conversation through to an order.
- Travel to meet customers and develop your territory.
About you
You already sell packaging machinery and have a track record of winning business and developing accounts. You’re comfortable talking with production and engineering teams, asking the questions that uncover a requirement and explaining why your proposed solution makes commercial sense. You also know that developing a new market takes more than a few introductions. It takes curiosity, persistence and the discipline to keep opportunities moving.
