Packaging Development Technologist
Manufacturing | Packaging Innovation | Hybrid 3 days office | Braintree, Essex | Must Drive
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 + Benefits

We're recruiting on behalf of a growing, innovative manufacturer committed to developing high-quality products, driving sustainability initiatives, and bringing new ideas to market.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative NPD team, working on packaging development projects from concept through to launch. You'll play a key role in ensuring packaging solutions meet customer expectations, technical requirements, commercial objectives, and sustainability goals.
The Opportunity
As Packaging Development Technologist, you'll work closely with NPD, Technical, Operations, Procurement, Sales, and external suppliers to develop, coordinate, and deliver packaging projects. You'll be involved in everything from reviewing packaging materials and managing specifications through to supporting factory trials and helping bring new products successfully to market. This role offers excellent exposure to the full product development lifecycle and suits someone who enjoys combining technical expertise, project coordination, and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of new packaging solutions.
- Coordinate packaging development projects from concept through to commercial launch.
- Manage packaging specifications and technical documentation.
- Liaise with packaging suppliers to source, develop, and improve packaging materials.
- Support packaging trials, validation activities, and product launches.
- Coordinate artwork approvals and packaging change processes.
- Work closely with NPD, Quality, Procurement, and Production teams to keep projects on track.
- Identify opportunities to improve packaging performance, sustainability, and cost efficiency.
- Keep up to date with packaging innovations, legislation, and industry trends.
About You
We're open to candidates from a range of packaging-focused backgrounds. We'd particularly like to hear from people who have experience working with:
- Flexible films, Cardboard packaging, Cartons and corrugated packaging, Paper-based packaging
- Labels and sleeves, Plastic packaging, Sustainable packaging materials, Consumer goods packaging
What We're Looking For
- Approximately 3+ years' experience in packaging, product development, or a packaging project environment.
- Understanding of packaging materials and packaging specifications.
- Strong organisation and project coordination skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- A proactive approach and desire to learn.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Passion for packaging innovation and product development.

As a result, the upper end of the salary range is available for candidates with strong packaging development, supplier management, and project coordination experience.
