Packaging Technologist

Location: North Devon

Salary: Permanent, 35,000 - 42,000

We are recruiting a Packaging Technologist for a successful and growing food manufacturer based in North Devon.

This is a broad, hands-on position with ownership of packaging across both branded and retailer own-label products. You will manage packaging specifications, support new product launches, coordinate artwork approvals and work with suppliers to develop packaging that is compliant, commercially effective and fit for purpose.

You do not necessarily need to already hold the title of Packaging Technologist. We are open to candidates from packaging, specifications, technical, NPD, process or wider food manufacturing backgrounds who have relevant transferable experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing packaging throughout the product lifecycle
  • Creating, reviewing and maintaining packaging specifications and product data
  • Supporting packaging development for new products and packaging changes
  • Coordinating artwork approvals, cutter guides and printer activity
  • Evaluating packaging materials for suitability, sustainability and cost
  • Working with packaging suppliers to identify new and improved solutions
  • Coordinating factory packaging trials and transit testing
  • Maintaining palletisation and transport configuration data
  • Completing Valpak and EPR reporting
  • Ensuring packaging meets legal, customer and retailer requirements
  • Supporting retailer own-label specifications and product launches
  • Working closely with Technical, NPD, Procurement, Production, Engineering, Sales and Marketing
  • Identifying improvements in packaging performance, sustainability, efficiency and cost

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
