The post holder will be part of the PACS/RIS team responsible for providing support to the clinical and administrative users throughout the Health Board and assisting with the ongoing development and support of RIS/PACS and associated systems. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of PACS/RIS services for an assigned division of the Health Board, but will also be required to provide support across divisions to cover for annual leave and sickness. The role includes administration and monitoring of complex systems to ensure they are delivering optimal performance, working in clinical areas to resolve problems and training staff to ensure that users maximise the benefits provided by the systems. Self-directed working is a key requirement of the role but it is also expected that the post-holder will work closely with all staff groups and departments to provide effective support of all radiology IT systems across all Health Board sites.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain a good working knowledge of the RIS and PACS and associated system software.
- Have a detailed knowledge of computer equipment and systems and to provide first line support for these items where appropriate. This will include a wide variety of complex PACS/RIS hardware and software, label and laser printers and PCs and other computer peripherals, such as digital dictation and voice recognition equipment and barcode readers, etc.
- Maintain a high quality of service in a constantly changing environment.
- Setup and maintain system code tables, configuration and user roles and access controls for radiology IT systems.
- Working with administrative and clerical staff to support regular system data quality monitoring to ensure accurate and timely workflow.
- In conjunction with the PACS Manager participate with the complex system testing to validate the safe and effective implementation of PACS/RIS software and hardware upgrades and their compatibility with interfaced systems and modalities and the Health Board IT infrastructure.

A PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the imaging systems used in radiology and other clinical departments. This includes ensuring the smooth operation of PACS and related systems such as RIS (Radiology Information System), troubleshooting technical issues, supporting users, managing data storage and image workflows, and ensuring compliance with data protection and clinical standards. They also liaise with IT teams, vendors, and clinical staff to implement upgrades, optimise system performance, and maintain high availability of imaging services.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant Post Graduate Diploma in IT / Systems Management or equivalent gained through attendance at relevant short courses / study days and attendance at other sites relevant to PACS / RIS administration
- Comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of Radiology IT and PACS systems
- Detailed, specialist understanding of radiology workflows gained through working within a radiology department.
- IT literate using multiple software packages – email, word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, and clinical information systems
Desirable criteria
- Excellent understanding of IT equipment and the NHS network infrastructure and systems
- Experience of implementing PACS and CR systems.
