Role Overview

The post holder will provide and lead clinical care within the Outpatient setting and assist in the development of Children’s Services in relation to outpatients, maintaining key performance indicators, partial booking, clinic utilisation, and DNAs. They will be an advocate for children and their families, promoting child-focused family-centred care and acting as a resource for multi-professional teams. They will manage the clinical areas within their responsibility including the development and management of staff and cover for the paediatric inpatient ward managers when they are on leave. The post holder will manage and support the paediatric specialist nurses and contribute to the specialty service development and be actively involved in recruitment and ensure safe staffing of both departments.

Operational Management

The post holder is responsible for the effective day-to-day operational and line management of nursing staff and resources within the children’s outpatient departments, and for the provision of a high quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective nursing service. They will be expected to work primarily Monday through to Friday but will require flexibility within the working day and the contracted hours to provide cross-site cover. The post holder will develop an environment which supports the value of paediatric nursing and act as a staff and patient advocate. In addition to the nursing and HCA staff on Rainforest and Holly OPD, the post holder will directly manage the paediatric specialist nurses and support development and service provision within their field of expertise.
