Role Overview

To provide nursing leadership and accountability for the children and young people’s service.

To secure the highest standards of clinical care in the specific services within your remit over the 24-hour period by providing strong professional leadership and line management to clinical staff.

To assist in ensuring the delivery of equitable front-line support mechanisms and services to users and carers that are person-centered, risk-managed, and driven by national, organizational, divisional, and Trust strategies in partnership with other agencies.

Set clear expectations to all members of the nursing team in delivering compassionate care, in line with Trust values.

To have management responsibility for the designated clinical areas, providing clear, visible leadership to create a culture of care, compassion, and creativity committed to improving the experiences for service users.

To work within the NHS Matrons charter for standards (2020).

Support the delivery of targets and key performance indicators to improve access and quality of patient care in the defined areas.

Lead service improvement in the clinical areas, driving continuous patient experience and effective management of change.

To be responsible for proposing, formulating, and implementing departmental policies.

To participate in the senior manager’s on-call rota.

Occupational Health, Facilities to ensure appropriate services are delivered that enhance patient and user experience of the clinical services in all service delivery locations.

Responsibility for the day-to-day clinical operational decisions made in all services, escalating concerns to the Head of Midwifery/Nursing and Deputy Director of Nursing.

Identify areas for service improvement and promote QI methodology to support managing service improvement.

Contribute with other members of the division to the development of medium and long-term service strategies and plans.

Maintain strong and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to continuously develop services.

Management Responsibility/Professional Leadership

Ensure Trust audits are completed timely and develop local action plans for any identified areas for improvement.

Work closely with the PALs and Complaints Team to both investigate and resolve complaints; record and celebrate compliments.

Ensure all Safeguard incidents are reviewed, investigated, and learning shared with clinical teams timely. Liaise with the Divisional Risk Lead about incidents that may require a rapid review or concise investigation.

Participate in the Senior Nurse on-call rota out of hours and Matron of the Day rota.

Provide matron cover in the absence of other matrons in the division when required.
