Location: HMP Thameside, London SE28 0FJP Hours: Permanent, Part-Time (8 hours per week) Salary: £7,135.26 per annum + Local Wage Allowance (LWA) £1,300 (pro-rated)

About the Role

Ready to make a meaningful impact? As a Pagan Chaplain in our Chaplaincy Team, your work will support individuals during life’s most profound and challenging moments—guiding them toward reflection, connection, and faith-based support within the prison community.

You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring individuals of all faiths, beliefs, or безрелигиозности (atheism) receive respectful, inclusive, and compassionate pastoral care. By fostering stability, purpose, and personal growth, your contributions will shape a safer, calmer environment—and help individuals build hopeful futures.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for delivering a host of vital duties, including:

  • Pastoral and Spiritual Care

    • Advise and support prisoners, colleagues, and families on matters of faith, belief, or spirituality.
    • Provide compassionate care during crises.
  • Faith and Belief Support

    • Facilitate and deliver worship, meditation, study, and Pagan faith-specific programmes (e.g., sessions, retreats).
    • Ensure inclusivity by catering to diverse Pagan traditions.
  • Leadership and Collaboration

    • Develop and contribute to local chaplaincy policies and best practices.
    • Mentor and support colleagues, chaplains, and volunteers post-incident or in times of need.
  • Administration and Coordination

    • Organise religious literature, materials, and supplies.
    • Coordinate external service providers (contractors/volunteers).
    • Maintain records, report on targets, and manage data.
  • Leadership Commitment

    • Lead worship or mediation sessions, including prayer, Pagan rituals, or worship services.
    • Represent the Pagan faith professionally and commit to personal developmental practices.
  • Training and Inclusion

    • Support and lead Faith Awareness Training for Serco colleagues.
    • Engage regularly with team meetings (possibly as a chair).

Requirements and Qualifications

This role requires deep expertise, multifaith collaboration, and resilience. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Unwavering Pagan Faith Commitment: Three+ years of hands-on experience delivering faith-specific services, ideally in a custodial or detention environment.
  • Multi-Tradition Expertise: Knowledge of more than one Pagan tradition (e.g., Heathenry, Druidry, Witchcraft, Neopagan modalities), supported by evidence or references.
  • Theological Proficiency: Comprehensive knowledge of Pagan dogma, practices, and rituals, with the ability to share these in accessible, inclusive, and culturally aware ways.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Ability to work effectively within a multifaith chaplaincy team.
    • Exceptionally strong spoken English abilities to deliver sessions and provide pastoral guidance persuasively.
  • Professional Development Commitment:
    • Evidence of ongoing training and membership in Pagan communities.
    • Professional endorsement (including recognition from HMPPS Pagan Faith and Belief Advisers for ongoing competencies).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
