Job Description
Planning and Organising
The role involves planning and organising a wide range of painting and decorating tasks, both internal and external, as instructed by management. Responsibilities include carrying out preparation work such as making walls good prior to decoration, completing minor repairs to surfaces and structures, and undertaking additional minor repair works as needed. The position requires the safe and effective use of all relevant tools, equipment, and access apparatus in line with safety guidelines, alongside erecting access equipment, plant, and temporary screening when required to protect both the environment and people, in accordance with current Health & Safety standards. The individual will be responsible for monitoring decorating material stock levels and requesting replenishment as necessary, as well as performing all aspects of painting and decorating, including the removal of paint using appropriate equipment. Duties also include preparing work areas for decoration, which may involve safely moving heavy items such as fridges, filing cabinets, and tables. The role requires the ability to interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and specifications relevant to the trade without supervision. Additionally, the individual must be fully conversant with, qualified to use, and able to maintain all relevant hand and power tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively, consistently delivering a high standard of workmanship as directed by the team leader or works supervisor.
Main duties
- Responding promptly to verbal, written, and reactive tasks
- Carrying out all painting and decorating work to a high standard
- Providing support and input into projects as required
- Notifying the line manager of any complaints or discrepancies
- Ensuring all works are completed within the approved budget
- Efficiently utilising, keeping clean, and reusing painting and decorating equipment wherever practical to avoid unnecessary wastage
- Attending site inductions, reading and understanding the site file, and signing all relevant receipt pages to confirm adherence to specified method statements and risk assessments
- Attending training courses in line with Mitie's QHSE policies and procedures
- Completing all painting and decorating tasks in a safe manner, wearing all required PPE at all times to minimise risk to themselves and others
- Wearing uniforms, safety boots, and name badges at all times
- Completing and submitting accurate time sheets promptly
- Implementing and following local procedures as they are issued
- Liaising with site management and key personnel regarding building-related issues

Qualifications
- Recognised qualification or minimum of three years of checkable experience in painting
- Full driving licence preferred but not essential
- Recognised apprenticeship is preferable
- Organised, able to meet deadlines, self-motivated, and a strong team player
- Conversant with relevant legislation and compliance requirements
- Good knowledge of all aspects of Health and Safety
- Strong motivational skills, positive “can-do” attitude, and excellent customer service abilities
- Capable of carrying out all duties associated with the role of a painter and decorator
Additional Information
Health and Safety responsibilities
- Following all Group and company policies and procedures at all times
- Reporting any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment
- Using all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with the training provided
- Reporting any QHSE issues to their line manager and/or through the divisional incident reporting system
