Job Overview
Are you a Health Care Support Worker who would like the opportunity to work within a pro-active and enthusiastic nursing team, delivering complementary therapies to palliative care patients?
We are looking for a passionate individual to join a well-established and highly motivated team. We would welcome someone who has well developed communication skills who cares about making a difference to the quality of life for patients with life limiting illness. We would welcome applicants that have well developed transferable skills and an appetite to build their expertise within the speciality of palliative care.
This permanent post offers the opportunity to deliver complementary therapies to palliative patients. The post holder will endeavour to provide for the holistic needs of the individual delivering complementary therapies to patients, in conjunction with other disciplines within the health care environment.
Working in a team of Palliative Care Consultants, Medical Staff, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Healthcare Support Workers/Complementary Therapists and AHPs, you would be contributing to the development and delivery of this vital service.
The post holder would be expected to work throughout the 4 hospitals within the secondary care service in ABUHB. This will include the Grange University Hospital, Nevill Hall Hospital, Royal Gwent Hospital and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.
Main duties of the job
- Effectively manage their own caseload of palliative care patients in secondary care, Monday to Friday 9-5pm and on a rotation for weekends
- Deliver a range of Complementary Therapies to patients under the care of the Palliative Care Team
- Undertake planned patient care under the direction of trained staff.
- Assist the Clinical Nurse Specialists and Medical team whilst caring for Palliative Care patients.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 in Health & Social care related subjects
- A nationally recognised qualification in at least one Complementary therapy or other qualification awarded by a private college or training institute in Complementary therapy
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good Knowledge and understanding the complex nature of Palliative care
Desirable criteria
- Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards.
- Ability to work across multiple sites to ensure service delivery provision.
