We have an opportunity for a paralegal to join Leanne Devine's Liverpool based practice, supporting her and an Associate Solicitor with a varied caseload. The team represents bereaved families in inquests, inquiries and related investigations where the circumstances of their loved one's death involves the state. This may involve prison, police and mental health detention, police contact prior to the death, community mental health and multi-agency failures involving homicide and self-inflicted deaths involving domestic abuse. In addition to inquests and inquiry work the team undertakes judicial reviews and claims under the Human Rights Act 1998 on behalf of bereaved families.

Overall purpose for this role

  • To provide a reliable and efficient support service primarily to a senior solicitor in respect of a busy caseload of cases within the Human Rights team (comprising Inquests, judicial reviews and claims brought under the Human Rights Act 1998 on behalf of bereaved families and to assist with general administration of the caseload.
  • To undertake a wide variety of paralegal and administrative tasks as set out below. You will also be required to undertake other ad-hoc duties as required from time to time.

Candidates should be aware that the caseload involves acting for bereaved families involving deaths in circumstances including suicide and homicide. The team provide training and support on vicarious trauma. However, the role does require emotional resilience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
