Hempsons Inquests and Inquiries Team provides legal advice, advocacy, training and support services to health, social care and charity sector clients. The team is highly rated and undertakes a range of complex and high-profile work in a supportive, collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
We currently have an opportunity for a Paralegal to join our team in Leeds to undertake a range of work, with a primary focus on inquests.
This role is ideal for an organised and motivated individual with a genuine interest in healthcare law. It is an opportunity to join a national team of experienced and supportive lawyers providing support and representation (including advocacy) in inquests, public inquiries and investigations. The team also undertakes a range of patient safety, learning and improvement work across the health sector.
As a member of the national team, you will support our lawyers on a range of matters, primarily inquests, but also public inquiries and other investigatory work. There may be opportunities to assist in wider regulatory matters.

What will I be doing?
The Role Will Include
- Day to day liaison with clients, witnesses and coroner's officers
- Disclosure exercises
- Analysis and management of large volumes of evidence
- Preparation of documents, including chronologies
- Preparing bundles
- Legal / medical research
- Day to day file management, including arranging witness meetings
- Attending meetings and court with file lawyer
- Contributing to knowledge management, including training materials, and thematic analysis work
- Collation of management information and measuring key performance indicators
- Handle sensitive and confidential information and otherwise act in accordance firm policies and procedures
- Maintain good financial management, including time recording and billing
What do I need?
- Previous healthcare experience welcomed but not essential
- A law degree or similar legal experience
- A genuine interest in healthcare, and specifically coronial law
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and an ability to manage competing priorities calmly and efficiently
- Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills, including working with Microsoft Office and PDF docs
