Job Description
As a Paramedic Assessor / Functional Specialist, you’ll leverage your clinical expertise and analytical skills differently—conducting in-person, video call, or telephone assessments with benefits claimants, writing detailed reports, and providing critical clinical recommendations. This role offers a structured, flexible working environment away from shift patterns.
Key Responsibilities
Your core duties include:
- Conducting structured functional assessments to assess how an individual’s health condition affects their day-to-day life or ability to work.
- Writing high-quality, evidence-based reports (3,000–4,000 words) to support the Department for Communities (DfC) in making informed benefit decisions.
- Completing 2–5 assessments per day, either:
- Face-to-face at our clinics,
- Via video call, or
- Over the phone.
- Demonstrating excellent observational, listening, and empathic skills to gather pertinent information.
- Analysing clinical evidence and supporting documentation to form clear, detailed assessments.
- Collaborating with DfC professionals to ensure fair, consistent decisions.
- Continuously expanding knowledge across a range of conditions and their impact on work ability.

Qualifications & Requirements
About You – Key Criteria
✅ HCPC-registered Paramedic with a valid PIN and no restrictions ✅ Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience ✅ Strong communication & interpersonal skills ✅ Ability to produce precise, detailed reports quickly ✅ Comfortable working to structured targets with efficiency ✅ Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office, plus ability to learn new systems remotely) ✅ Exceptional observation and active listening skills ✅ Driving licence or access to transport (essential for assessment centres)

Security & Compliance
As part of this role, you’ll need to:
