Parent Governor
Education Governing Committee
Remote, Devon or Cornwall based
Four virtual committee meetings per year for a 2-year term minimum.
Parent Governors play a vital role in supporting the governance of ROC College by bringing the perspective and experience of parents, carers and families. They contribute to strategic oversight, helping to ensure that learners receive high-quality education, support and opportunities that enable them to achieve their potential.
Parent Governors provide constructive challenge and support to leaders, helping the Committee understand the experiences of learners and families. They contribute to discussions about educational performance, wellbeing, safeguarding and inclusion, ensuring that decisions are informed by the needs and aspirations of learners and those who support them.
Through their involvement, Parent Governors help strengthen relationships between the College, learners and families, ensuring that ROC College remains responsive, ambitious and focused on delivering positive outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight and independent scrutiny of ROC College, ensuring it delivers high-quality outcomes for learners.
- Bring the perspective of parents, carers and families to Committee discussions and decision-making.
- Support, challenge and hold the education leadership team accountable for educational performance, learner achievement, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
- Monitor safeguarding, attendance, engagement and learner outcomes.
- Review performance information and quality assurance reports, using evidence to inform discussions and decision-making.
- Promote inclusion, equality, diversity and learner-centred approaches.
- Contribute to the development and review of strategies, policies and objectives.
- Act as an ambassador for ROC College and United Response.
- Attend Committee meetings and participate actively in governance activities.
- Complete an annual learning walk and associated governance activities.

Requirements
We are looking for parent/carers who can demonstrate:
- A commitment to the vision, values and mission of United Response and ROC College.
- Experience as a parent, family member or carer of a young person with additional needs, disabilities or SEND.
- A passion for improving opportunities and outcomes for learners.
- The ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term development.
- Confidence to provide constructive challenge and ask insightful questions.
- Sound judgement and a willingness to consider evidence when making decisions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Integrity, discretion and an understanding of confidentiality.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a diverse committee.
- A willingness to undertake training and development relevant to the role.
Desirable
- A parent/carer of a current or former ROC College student
