Company Description
Allsorts Youth Project is a Sussex-based charity founded in 1999 that supports, connects, and amplifies the voices of LGBT+ children and young people aged 5–25, as well as their families. The organization works toward a world where all LGBT+ children and young people can live openly and safely by challenging exclusion, prejudice, and discrimination in every area of their lives.
Allsorts provides youth services such as groups, one-to-one support, workshops, and activities tailored to the needs of LGBT+ young people. It also runs dedicated family services, including a Parents/Carers Group and individual support for parents, carers, and wider family members. In addition, Allsorts offers training to the wider community to help create safer, more inclusive spaces for LGBT+ people.
Role Description
The Parents and Carers Service Support Worker is a part-time, on-site role based in Brighton. This role focuses on supporting parents and carers of LGBT+ children and young people through group sessions, one-to-one support, and signposting to appropriate services.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Helping to plan and facilitate parents and carers groups
- Assisting with outreach and engagement activities
- Maintaining clear, accurate records of contacts and support provided
The role also involves:
- Collaborating closely with colleagues across youth, family, and training services to ensure families receive joined-up, holistic support
- Contributing to creating welcoming, safe, and inclusive spaces
- Assisting with evaluations, feedback collection, and basic administrative tasks that support the delivery and improvement of the service
Qualifications
- Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support to parents, carers, and families, particularly those of LGBT+ children and young people
- Experience facilitating or assisting groups, workshops, or support sessions in community, social care, or youth settings
- Strong communication skills, including active listening, clear verbal communication, and accurate written record-keeping
- Understanding of issues affecting LGBT+ children, young people, and their families, and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Organizational skills to manage time effectively, coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain confidential documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build positive relationships with external partners and services
- Basic IT skills, including use of email, word processing, and secure data entry systems
- Relevant experience in family support, youth work, social care, community work, or a related field; a relevant qualification (e.g., in youth work, social work, counselling, or community development) is beneficial
- Willingness to work some evenings or weekends in line with service needs and to undertake ongoing training related to LGBT+ inclusion and safeguarding
