Come and support the running of a remarkable parish in Beaulieu
This is not a conventional office administrator role.
You'll be the person who helps make the machinery of parish life work: supporting the Rector and PCC, keeping the administration organised, taking responsibility for important financial administration, and making sure things happen. Working in the historic setting of Beaulieu Abbey Church, you'll be a valued member of a friendly, committed team, with considerable autonomy and a role where your work genuinely matters.
Beaulieu is a fascinating and distinctive parish in the heart of the New Forest, serving a lively community across Beaulieu Abbey Church and three other churches and chapels. Lord and Lady Montagu of Beaulieu take a keen interest in parish life, and we have strong connections with the world-famous tourist sites of Exbury Gardens and Buckler's Hard on the Beaulieu River, both much-valued parts of our parish.
It's a beautiful place to work, but what makes this role particularly interesting is the variety and responsibility. You'll work closely with the Rector, Churchwardens, PCC and parish volunteers, helping to keep the practical, financial and administrative side of parish life running smoothly.
The person we're looking for
We're looking for someone highly organised, capable, proactive and dependable — someone who takes ownership and enjoys making things work well.
You'll be someone who:
- Takes ownership — notices what needs doing, uses good judgement and sees things through.
- Is highly organised — able to bring order to complicated information and manage competing priorities.
- Is financially capable — with excellent attention to detail and confidence handling financial administration.
- Thinks practically — comfortable with technology and always looking for sensible ways to improve systems, processes and efficiency.
- Works well with people — communicating warmly and professionally with clergy, volunteers, PCC members, contractors and the public.
- Makes things happen — able to coordinate contributions from others, follow up agreed actions and finish what they start.
Previous experience in financial administration, bookkeeping, office management, PA work or a similar role is highly desirable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Excellent working knowledge of technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel and QuickBooks, is essential.
You do not need to have worked for a church before. We are much more interested in finding someone who is excellent at what they do, understands the importance of the parish's work, and is willing to learn. An understanding of, and sympathy with, the mission and values of the Church of England is important.
What you'll be doing
This is a varied role, with priorities changing from week to week. Some weeks may be more finance-focused; at other times you'll be concentrating on parish administration, communications, meetings, events or practical arrangements. You'll take responsibility for keeping important things organised and followed through, while continually looking for sensible ways to simplify, improve and streamline how the parish works.
Your work will vary from week to week and, when required, may include:
- Financial administration — maintaining accurate records, processing invoices and payments, reconciling accounts, recording income and expenditure, and supporting Gift Aid, budgets and financial reporting.
- Supporting the Rector, Churchwardens and PCC — helping with correspondence, meetings, diaries, records and the practical administration of parish life.
- Parish communications — helping keep newsletters, publicity, noticeboards and online information accurate and up to date.
- Churches, facilities and events — helping coordinate bookings, access, contractors, supplies, events and other practical arrangements.
- Parish records and systems — maintaining electronic and paper records, registers, rotas and other information so that things can be easily found and kept up to date.
- External liaison — dealing as necessary with the Diocese, HMRC, banks, suppliers, contractors and other organisations.
- Good governance and compliance — supporting appropriate financial controls and the administration of safeguarding, health & safety, insurance and data protection.
No two weeks will be quite the same, and not every responsibility will arise every week. We're looking for someone who enjoys that variety, can work independently, and is able to judge what needs attention first.
What we offer
- Competitive remuneration, with the initial rate and longer-term arrangement discussed with shortlisted candidates.
- Around 12 hours per week, with flexibility to agree the hours and working pattern that best suit the role and the successful candidate.
- A formal review after three months to ensure that the workload, hours, responsibilities and rate of pay are working well for both the parish and the successful candidate.
- A one-year fixed-term contract, with potential to become a permanent position.
- A beautiful working environment in the heart of the New Forest.
- A varied role with genuine responsibility and autonomy.
- The opportunity to work closely with clergy, volunteers and the wider parish community.
- The chance to make a visible and practical difference to the life of a remarkable parish.
