Bristol City Council’s Parks and Green Spaces Service manages one of Bristol's most important community assets, providing a vital citywide resource for recreation and leisure, health and wellbeing and access to nature and wildlife.
The service manages a diverse and nationally important green space estate across 2000 hectares including heritage estates, formal parks and gardens, cemeteries, allotments, trees and woodland and children and young people’s play facilities.
We now have a new opportunity within the Parks Service for an experienced Asset Manager to manage and properly maintain the assets and infrastructure used and enjoyed by our visitors across our estate.
The Asset Manager will allocate resources effectively to maintain a large-scale and diverse asset base which includes walls and railings, footpaths and roads, lakes, weirs, bridges, memorials and ancient monuments, play areas, ball courts and bike tracks.
The Asset Manager will have considerable autonomy to shape and deliver a risk and cost-based approach to managing an asset base of considerable scale.
This will involve managing a team to instruct condition reports and inspections, commission works, allocate funds and develop a business case for ongoing resources that will ensure we pass on our assets in good condition for future generations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
