Hendon, North London | Full-time | Office-based

Develop Technically. Work on Live Projects. Learn Directly Alongside Architects and Structural Engineers.

EMI Consulting is a growing multidisciplinary consultancy based in Hendon, North London, providing architectural design, structural engineering, Building Regulations, Principal Designer and Party Wall services.

We work across a broad range of residential, commercial and mixed-use projects, including:

  • Residential extensions and refurbishments
  • Loft conversions
  • Internal alterations and reconfigurations
  • HMO and property conversions
  • Complex structural alterations
  • Commercial refurbishments
  • New-build and mixed-use projects
  • Planning and Building Regulations applications
  • Technical and construction drawing packages

Due to continued growth, we are looking to add several talented RIBA Part 1 or Part 2 Architectural Assistants to join our architectural team. We are particularly interested in candidates who want to develop strong technical, planning and construction knowledge and gain hands-on exposure to live projects.

The Role

As a Part 1 / Part 2 Architectural Assistant, you will work closely with our Architects and Structural Engineers across projects from survey and feasibility through planning, Building Regulations and technical design.

Depending on your experience, you can expect to:

Architectural Design & AutoCAD

  • Prepare existing and proposed plans, elevations and sections
  • Produce AutoCAD drawings for planning, Building Regulations and technical stages
  • Assist with feasibility studies and architectural design development
  • Prepare construction details and coordinated drawing packages
  • Produce presentation drawings and 3D visualisations where required

Planning & Building Regulations

  • Assist with planning applications and supporting documentation
  • Research local planning policies and site constraints
  • Support the preparation of Building Regulations / Building Control drawing packages
  • Respond to design and Building Control comments with guidance from senior team members
  • Develop your understanding of UK construction methods, materials and regulatory requirements

Surveys, Sites & Technical Coordination

  • Attend and assist with measured building surveys
  • Attend site visits across London where required
  • Coordinate architectural drawings directly with our Structural Engineers
  • Assist in resolving architectural and construction issues
  • Develop practical and buildable design solutions

Project Delivery

  • Work across several residential and commercial projects simultaneously
  • Maintain accurate drawings and project documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and project meetings
  • Work closely with senior Architects while progressively taking greater ownership of your own work

About You

Essential

  • RIBA / ARB Part 1 or Part 2 architectural qualification, or equivalent appropriate architectural education
  • Strong professional AutoCAD capability – essential
  • Good architectural drawing and design skills
  • Understanding of UK planning and Building Regulations
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively
  • Genuine interest in developing technical and construction knowledge
  • Comfortable working from our Hendon office five days per week initially

Highly Desirable

  • UK architectural practice experience
  • Experience with residential extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments or property conversions
  • Experience preparing planning applications
  • Experience producing Building Regulations or technical drawing packages
  • Measured survey experience
  • Site/construction experience
  • Experience coordinating with Structural Engineers or other consultants
  • Revit, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Location:

Hendon, North London

This is a full-time, office-based position, five days per week initially, with site attendance across London as required. Candidates should consider their ability to commute to Hendon on this basis before applying.
