Based in Bedfordshire or Wiltshire (applicants are invited to apply that live near either; there will be a requirement to visit the other sites on occasions regardless of home location).

Job Purpose

The Part-145 Compliance & Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting the organisation's Compliance Monitoring System and Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, other NAA approvals, and ISO 9001 held. The role ensures continued compliance with UK Part-145, company procedures, and regulatory obligations while promoting a proactive safety culture across both operating bases.

The individual will assist in maintaining regulatory compliance, conducting audits, investigating safety occurrences, analyzing trends, and supporting continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Monitoring

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the Compliance Monitoring Programme.
  • Conduct and report internal compliance audits across both operating bases (as required).
  • Perform product, process, and system audits in accordance with the annual audit schedule (as required).
  • Verify compliance with:
    • UK Part-145
    • UK CAA regulations
    • FAA, TCCA, and BCAA regulations
    • EASA regulations (when applicable)
    • Maintenance Organisation Exposition
    • Company procedures
    • Customer requirements where applicable
  • Raise audit findings and observations.
  • Monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure effective closure.
  • Assist with maintaining audit records and compliance documentation.
  • Support external audits conducted by the UK CAA and customers.
  • Identify areas of regulatory risk and recommend improvements.
  • Assist with approval changes.
  • Assist with maintaining company training records and authorisations.
  • Support weekly management meetings.

Safety Management System (SMS)

  • Support the operation and continual improvement of the Safety Management System.
  • Administer the company hazard identification and occurrence reporting processes.
  • Promote confidential and Just Culture reporting.
  • Investigate maintenance errors, incidents, and safety occurrences.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using recognised investigation techniques.
  • Develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor safety performance indicators (SPIs).
  • Assist with the safety risk assessments.
  • Maintain the organisational Safety Risk Register.
  • Produce monthly safety reports as required.
  • Support safety meetings and management reviews.

Documentation & Regulatory Support

  • Assist in maintaining the Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE), SMS Manual, and other NAA Supplements.
  • Assist the Review of regulatory publications and assess organisational impact.
  • Support implementation of regulatory changes.
  • Maintain compliance & training records.
  • Maintain the company procedures & forms regarding the latest revision status.
  • Ensure documentation reflects current working practices.
  • Support management during regulatory changes.

Training & Safety Promotion

  • Deliver or assist with:
    • Human Factors training
    • SMS awareness
    • Compliance awareness
    • Just Culture promotion
  • Develop safety bulletins and compliance communications.
  • Promote continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Working knowledge of UK Part-145 regulations.
  • Knowledge of Aviation Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience within an aircraft maintenance environment (5 years).
  • Current experience within a Part-145 Quality or Compliance department (2 years).
  • Experience conducting audits.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyse data and identify trends.
  • British citizen – eligible for Security Clearance.

Desirable Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience with Centrik management systems.
  • Practical application of Safety Management Systems within a Part 145 organisation.
  • Nominated Post Holder (Form 4 or SRG1769) held previously.
  • Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Root Cause Analysis training.
  • Knowledge of Part-CAMO and Part-ML interfaces.
  • Knowledge of BCAR A8-23, EASA, FAA, TCCA, and Bahrain CAA regulations.
  • Experience within an ISO 9001: 2015 accredited company.

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent aviation engineering qualification (civil or military).
  • Current HF, SMS, EWIS, and FTS.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Lead/Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Safety Management Systems training.
  • Human Factors training.
  • Root Cause Analysis training.

Role Profile Summary

This position is ideally suited to an experienced aircraft maintenance professional wishing to progress within a compliance and safety management department and ultimately becoming a Nominated Person subject to time in this role and UK CAA approval.

The role combines regulatory compliance, internal auditing, safety investigation, and continuous improvement, helping ensure that Avalon Aero maintains the highest standards of airworthiness, regulatory compliance, and operational safety across both operating bases.
