Part-Time Accountant (Remote)
Reports To
Chief Finance Officer / Director
Hours of Work
1–2 days per week (approximately 8–16 hours), with flexibility to meet the needs of the business.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for supporting the Company's financial management by maintaining accurate accounting records, supporting the preparation and production of annual budgets, rolling cashflow forecasts, managing payroll and PAYE, and ensuring compliance with statutory financial obligations including the production of monthly management accounts and report. The role requires a qualified/part qualified accountant who can work independently while supporting the wider business with sound financial management and reporting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The employee will be responsible for:
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly on the Xero system.
- Reconciling bank accounts, credit card accounts and balance sheet accounts.
- Managing purchase and sales ledgers.
- Processing supplier invoices and preparing payment runs.
- Administering the Company's PAYE payroll, including:
- Processing payroll accurately and on time.
- Calculating tax, National Insurance and pension deductions.
- Submitting payroll information to HMRC.
- Maintaining payroll records.
- Ensuring compliance with payroll legislation.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Assisting with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
- Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports for the Directors.
- Monitoring cash flow and highlighting any financial risks.
- Liaising with external accountants, auditors, HMRC and other professional advisers.
- Maintaining compliance with UK accounting standards and statutory requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial controls and accounting processes.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties consistent with the role and the needs of the business.

Role Requirements
Essential
- Fully qualified/part qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Advanced knowledge and experience of Xero.
- Experience managing PAYE payroll and HMRC submissions.
- Excellent understanding of UK accounting principles, payroll legislation and VAT.
- Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable
- Experience working within a growing SME.
- Experience within the construction or project-based industries.
- Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
- Experience improving accounting systems and financial processes.
Terms of Employment
- Employment Status: Part-Time Employee.
- Hours: 1–2 days per week.
- Place of Work: Fully Remote.
- Salary: To be agreed, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Holiday Entitlement: In accordance with the employee's contract of employment and statutory requirements.
