Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'd report straight to a co-founder and own the finance function outright. There's no layer of management between you and the decisions, and your judgement will shape how the firm grows. We pay fairly and share our profits with the whole team. We also make real time and budget available for wellbeing, because we've found that people who aren't stretched thin do better work. When we get together, it's been track days, a cookery school and volunteering, and there's usually something in the diary. You're welcome to join in when it works for you!

The role

You'd be the person the leadership team turns to for financial and commercial advice, and the person who makes sure the numbers behind that advice are right.

Leading the finance function

  • Produce and own the monthly board pack, giving the directors timely, accurate reporting with commentary they can act on.
  • Advise the founders on strategy, pricing, investment and the commercial implications of the decisions in front of them.
  • Lead business planning, budgeting and financial modelling.
  • Run monthly cashflow forecasting and track it against actuals.

Running the numbers

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and variance commentary.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns, including partial-exemption calculations.
  • Oversee payroll, supplier payments, client invoicing and credit control. Much of this is hands-on today, and we'd like you to automate as much of it as makes sense.

Keeping us compliant

  • Work with our external accountants on year-end accounts, tax filings and audit requirements.
  • Make sure the right insurance is in place and renewals are handled ahead of time.

You'll also be the first port of call for finance and business-administration questions across the firm, and we'd welcome your view on how the back office should run as we grow.

About you

Essential

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Senior finance experience as a financial controller, finance director or CFO, ideally in an SME or mid-market business.
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT, including partial exemption.
  • Happy to do the hands-on work yourself as well as advise on it. In a firm our size, the FD also runs the ledger.
  • Confident working independently and switching between strategic and operational work in the same week.

Desirable

  • Experience advising founders directly.
  • Board-pack preparation and governance reporting.
  • Managing relationships with external accountants.
  • A background in professional or financial services, though it's genuinely not essential.
