HR Administrator
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced administrator to join the HR team of one of the UK’s most successful schools and play an important part in supporting the people who make Putney High School such an inspiring place to work.
We are looking for a highly organised and approachable HR Administrator to provide a first-class service to more than 200 colleagues across our Junior and Senior Schools. Working closely with the HR Manager, you will be involved across the employee lifecycle, from coordinating recruitment and interviews to maintaining employee records, supporting payroll administration and completing essential pre-employment and compliance checks.
It is a varied role where accuracy, discretion and excellent organisation really matter. You will help coordinate interview days, prepare recruitment documentation, request references, process DBS applications, support People XD administration and respond to HR queries from colleagues across the school.
This is a part-time role, equivalent to three days a week, during term time, plus 10 days (pro-rata) with the exact working pattern to be agreed.
This is also a fully site-based role and is not suitable for remote or hybrid working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
You will be an experienced administrator with excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities calmly and professionally. You will be confident using Microsoft Office and database systems and comfortable dealing with people at all levels with tact and discretion.
Previous HR experience, knowledge of HR systems or experience within a school would be advantageous, but these are desirable rather than essential. More important is a proactive, flexible and collaborative approach, together with the ability to establish reliable administrative systems and deliver a responsive, high-quality service.
