Role Description
This is a part-time, on-site Learning Mentor role based in Hemel Hempstead. The Learning Mentor will support children and young people in small group and one-to-one settings, building trusting relationships and encouraging engagement with learning activities.

Responsibilities

- Helping learners to develop social, emotional, and behavioural skills
- Implementing individualised support plans
- Reinforcing positive routines and boundaries
- Collaborating closely with schools and families to monitor progress, share observations, and adjust interventions as needed
- Contributing to a safe, inclusive environment by supervising learners throughout the day, responding calmly to challenging situations, and promoting a culture of respect and dignity
Qualifications
- Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, social care, or similar settings, with the ability to build rapport and trust.
- Skills in supporting social, emotional, and behavioural needs, including active listening, de-escalation, and positive behaviour strategies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with colleagues, families, and external professionals.
- Organizational and time-management skills to follow support plans, record observations, and manage multiple learners’ needs.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, safeguard children and young people, and follow relevant policies and procedures.
- Adaptability, patience, and resilience when working with learners who may present complex needs or challenging behaviour.
- Basic IT skills for completing documentation and communicating via email or learning platforms.
- Relevant training or qualifications in education, youth work, psychology, or special educational needs are beneficial but not essential.
- Willingness to undertake enhanced DBS checks and ongoing safeguarding and professional development training.
