We are currently seeking a part-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Historical and Critical Studies (Design) to design and deliver content in Critical Design Thinking (previously Historical and Critical Studies in Design) and support and assess learning and assist with curriculum planning and development. (This is a part-time 0.6 role, covering maternity leave 02/11/2026 – 29/10/2027)
About the Role
You will deliver high-quality teaching and assessment, contribute to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation, and engage in relevant research and scholarly activity that enhances student experience. You will also support external funding and income-generation opportunities, build strong relationships with industry, professional networks and academic communities, and contribute to recruitment, promotion and school-wide activities. The role includes departmental administration, quality assurance and accreditation responsibilities, as well as opportunities to mentor and support less experienced colleagues.

About You
- Extensive knowledge and experience of Historical and Critical Studies in Design
- Recent, successful experience of university level teaching in a relevant discipline
- A clear commitment to a student-centred teaching and learning environment and a demonstratable interest in pedagogic innovation
- A track record or demonstrable potential in research, knowledge exchange or professional practice – particularly where this has clearly enriched your teaching, underpinned curricular developments and/or enhanced the student experience
- Flexible and adaptive with a positive approach to change
- Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills
- A good command of HE quality assurance processes
- A good understanding of the changing HE landscape and its relevance to the Department/School/University
