Description

Join our Human Resources team as a Payroll & pensions Assistant, and play a key role in delivering an accurate, efficient and high-quality payroll and pensions service to more than 2,200 employees across Bath Spa University.

Working alongside experienced payroll and HR professionals, you'll provide specialist advice and support, contribute to service improvements, and help ensure colleagues are paid correctly and on time.

In addition to payroll and pensions administration, the team supports system configuration, process improvement, project delivery and regulatory compliance. Working closely with colleagues across HR, Enterprise IT and the payroll provider, the team is committed to delivering an efficient, high-quality service.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, helping to deliver an excellent payroll and pensions service while contributing to continuous improvement and an outstanding employee experience.

This is a permanent, part-time role working 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE). This is a hybrid role with 1-2 days per week in the office, depending on the agreed working pattern. The working pattern for this role is flexible and will be agreed with the successful candidate, subject to maintaining adequate service cover throughout the week.

Interviews are expected to take place on 23rd Oct.

About the Role

  • Process payroll and pension transactions accurately and in accordance with agreed deadlines, organisational policies and relevant legislation.
  • Calculate and validate salary payments, statutory and voluntary deductions, statutory payments, pension contributions and associated payroll records.
  • Support the production, checking and reconciliation of payroll outputs, reports and submissions, ensuring compliance with HMRC, pension scheme and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with HR colleagues to ensure the accurate processing of starters, leavers, contractual changes and pension administration activities.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to employees, managers and colleagues on payroll, pension and pay-related matters, resolving enquiries accurately and efficiently.
  • Support the administration of the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS), Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), auto-enrolment and year-end payroll activities.
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders to identify, investigate and resolve payroll and pension issues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll and pension processes, policies, procedures and guidance to enhance efficiency, compliance and service delivery.
  • Support the maintenance of payroll and pension information, documentation, training materials and staff communications.

About You

Essential:

  • Recent, significant experience of payroll processing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience working on large payrolls

Desirable

  • Experience working with iTrent
  • Experience working with LGPS/TPS pensions
  • Intermediate/advanced excel/numeracy

Grade 5 - Starting at £14,794, rising to £16,501 (Full-time equivalent £29,588 to £33,002)

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
