Part Time Vocational Trainer - ESOL
Permanent, Part Time
£34,688 Per Annum, Full Time Equivalent
Location: Chelmsford
Working Style: Community-based worker

We're looking for a passionate and engaging Vocational Trainer - ESOL to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment that supports adult learners to develop their English language skills, build confidence and achieve their personal, educational and employment goals.
You'll support learners from diverse backgrounds to develop the language, personal, social and employability skills they need to progress into further learning, employment, and active participation within their communities.
As part of Essex County Council, ACL is the largest provider of adult learning in Essex, supporting thousands of learners each year to gain the skills, confidence, and qualifications they need to achieve their goals.

Please note that this position is being offered on a part-time basis, on a fractional contract, offering either 14.8 or 22.2 hours per week. The expected pattern of teaching delivery can be seen below and will be discussed / confirmed in the interview.
Ideally, we are looking for the successful candidate to start work ASAP.
Working Pattern:
Session times run from 9.30am till 2.30pm, Monday to Friday, ideal for those looking for work that fits around school days. Possible evenings and online teaching. Additional tasks are required outside of session times but within the expected number of working hours per day and can be done at a time that suits you that day. 2 or 3 full days (7.4 hours per day) per week, but other arrangements available. Days to be discussed at interview. Working across 52 weeks per year. Delivery of sessions will take place at ACL Chelmsford, with the potential need to travel to ACL Maldon and / or ACL Witham to deliver sessions there.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll deliver engaging and inclusive learning experiences that support learners to develop their English language skills and progress towards further learning, employment, and wider life opportunities.
You will:
- Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment within ESOL programmes, both face-to-face and online.
- Motivate and inspire learners to achieve their goals and progress in their learning.
- Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for diverse groups of adult learners within a safe and inclusive environment.
- Promote the benefits of technology and support learners to develop their digital confidence and skills.
- Use initial, diagnostic, and formative assessment methods to identify starting points, monitor progress, and provide constructive and timely feedback.
- Set challenging targets and learning objectives that support learner achievement and progression.
- Support learners to develop personal, social and employability skills that enable progression into further learning and employment.
- Maintain accurate learner attendance, progress and achievement records using ACL systems.

We're looking for someone who:
- Is highly skilled in delivering ESOL learning to adult learners and can effectively adapt teaching to meet diverse learner needs.
- Is passionate about developing others and helping learners achieve their goals.
- Can create engaging and inclusive learning experiences for adults from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Has strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Is organised, professional and committed to continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment.
- Has high levels of digital competence and can confidently incorporate technology into learning.
Essential
What you'll bring
- An ESOL-specific qualification such as CELTA, DELTA, Level 5 TESOL, or a relevant degree.
- Experience delivering ESOL learning to adult learners.
- Experience of teaching, training, coaching, or supporting learners.
- Good digital and ICT skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable
- A recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience delivering accredited ESOL qualifications.
- Experience of learner assessment and progress monitoring.
- Experience supporting learners with additional needs.
- Experience delivering adult learning programmes.
- Knowledge of current ESOL curriculum and assessment requirements.

What to expect:
Our recruitment process is made up of two stages. The first stage is a:
- 1 hour Micro Teach Presentation and discussion, where you'll have the opportunity to showcase your teaching approach and subject expertise.
Successful candidates will then progress to a up to 1-hour Competency and Behavioural-Based Interview, allowing us to learn more about your experience, skills, and how you align with our values and the requirements of the role.
