Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Children’s University is a local children’s charity that aims to ignite the dreams of underprivileged children in Hull and the East Riding.
We are looking for a vibrant, driven and personable individual who loves to connect with people and make lasting relationships. This role involves lots of networking, attending out of hours social events and presenting to audiences, so we are looking for someone that thrives in a social environment, can approach people confidently and can passionately spread the message about our charity’s work. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and use their own initiative. Experience in a similar role would be beneficial but this is not essential.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Head of Development, the Partnership Development Officer will be responsible for creating new corporate partnerships and building our network in the local business community, acting as one of the key representatives of the charity.
This role involves regular interactions with the business community and will occasionally require out of hours work, sometimes at short notice, to attend events, including some weekends and evenings (sometimes these can go on until midnight). Please do not apply if you are unable to work flexible hours of this nature.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow corporate support by identifying, connecting and creating partnerships with businesses.
- Representing the charity at business and networking events
- Presenting to businesses and audiences at events
- Raise funds against agreed targets
- Representing the charity in some press and local media
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and confident person with excellent communication skills and the ability to create strong and lasting relationships whilst working towards the achievement of targets.

Essential Skills
- Experience in a sales, business development or fundraising role.
- A full clean driving license and access to own car
- Excellent negotiating and influencing skills
- A proven track record in achieving targets
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Experience of developing and maintaining relationships across a wide range of contacts, preferably in the business community
Desirable Skills
- Understanding and experience of budgeting
- Experience working in the corporate sector
- Knowledge of corporate community support trends/ESG/ CSR
- Previous experience in corporate partnerships

Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Children’s University is a local charity that strives to give every child the opportunities they deserve, no matter what circumstances they were born into.
Many children around Hull and the East Riding do not have the same opportunities that other children have in the UK. Many have never been much further than the street in which they live and some children will never visit another city until they reach adulthood. Because of this, some children don’t have any aspirations for the future.
HEY Children’s University believes that every child is brilliant at something, and that might be something different to academic talent. But how can those children find out their unique talents if they don’t have the opportunity to try new things?
HEY Children’s University gives local children the opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have and gives them the chance to discover their interests and talents- the chance to create their own dreams. The charity aims to light up every path that a child could take and show them their options. Despite what the name implies, HEY Children’s University is about ensuring that children know about all the pathways into careers: be that an apprenticeship, starting their own business, working their way up in a company or attending college or University. Every child should understand what pathways exist.
HEY Children’s University offers a diverse range of experiences that are designed to raise aspirations, confidence and self esteem. Some of these experiences include days at local businesses where the children learn about the industry, meet the staff and take part in a range of activities. The charity also gives children the chance to visit other cities such as London and Edinburgh, offering sleepovers in exciting venues such as the Natural History Museum and the HMS Belfast battleship.
