Overview
We are seeking an experienced Passenger Support, Safeguarding, VAWG and Mental Health Trainer to work with our team on a temporary consulting basis.
The role involves supporting the design of digital training simulations for frontline railway professionals. These will focus on assisting disabled and vulnerable passengers, responding to safeguarding concerns, supporting passengers experiencing poor mental health and addressing risks relating to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
What you’ll do as an SME
- Draft relevant content and training guides, drawing on your knowledge, experience and industry best practice.
- Develop realistic scenarios involving disability support, safeguarding, mental health, VAWG and vulnerable passengers.
- Provide guidance on how staff should approach, reassure and assist passengers who are blind or visually impaired.
- Develop scenarios that help staff recognise distress, start supportive conversations and respond appropriately.
- Advise on safeguarding risks, escalation routes and appropriate boundaries for frontline colleagues.
- Provide subject matter guidance relating to VAWG.
- Define what good looks like, including learner evaluation criteria, appropriate responses and common mistakes.
- Review scripts, learner responses and digital training materials for accuracy, sensitivity and realism.
- Act as a subject matter expert, helping our team design effective digital learning experiences.

Essential requirements
- Recent and extensive experience designing or delivering training in passenger support, safeguarding, disability awareness or mental health.
- Practical knowledge of supporting vulnerable or distressed people in frontline environments.
- Experience or strong knowledge of supporting people who are blind or visually impaired.
- Up-to-date understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and escalation processes.
- Knowledge of mental health awareness, crisis support and suicide prevention approaches.
- Recognised qualification in education, training or an equivalent area.
- Willing and able to write detailed training guides and realistic scenarios from scratch.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365.

Desired requirements
- Experience within the railway, public transport or another frontline customer-service environment.
- Relevant qualifications in safeguarding, Mental Health First Aid, suicide prevention or disability awareness.
- Experience designing new or bespoke training programmes.
- Experience contributing to scenario-based or digital learning.
- Knowledge of passenger assistance policies and accessibility requirements.
