Role Description
The Pastry Chef is a full-time, on-site role based at The Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft. This role involves planning, preparing, and producing a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods for restaurant service, events, and special occasions. The Pastry Chef will manage day-to-day operations in the pastry section, including mise en place, baking, decorating, and plating, while maintaining high food quality and presentation standards.

Responsibilities

- Managing inventory for pastry ingredients
- Ensuring proper food storage
- Complying with food safety and hygiene regulations
- Collaborating with the wider kitchen team to align pastry offerings with overall menus
- Contributing to menu development, seasonal specials, and cost control
- Supporting training and guidance for junior kitchen team members where needed
Qualifications
- Strong bakery and baking skills, including preparation of pastries, breads, cakes, and desserts.
- Proficiency in food preparation and cooking, with solid overall culinary skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and kitchen health and safety practices.
- Experience in menu planning, portion control, and basic costing for pastries and desserts.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Attention to detail in presentation, flavour balance, and consistency of products.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a professional and reliable work ethic.
- Formal culinary or pastry training, or equivalent professional experience in a pastry or bakery role.
