About The Role
Our purpose is to use the power of communication to make a better world. For each other, for our customers, for society and our communities.
The purpose of this role is to lead a field team responsible for the build, maintenance & transformation of our networks infrastructure. This includes BT’s most critical asset – its fixed and mobile networks – but also data centres, third party PoP sites and our radio rigging masts & towers estate. This infrastructure is consumed by all market-facing units to deliver end service to customers.
Our Field engineering team provide a 24 x 7 x 365 service in maintaining our network, which consists of over 5500 exchanges, 3600 radio stations, 26 core EE sites and 10 strategic data centres across the UK. The team is made up of highly skilled, experienced engineers engaged in Power, Electronics and Radio/Rigging engineering activity across the UK, as well as a management team who lead and support those activities.
In your role as a patch manager, you’ll be leading a team of engineers to deliver the best service for our customers, whilst ensuring they have the tools, training and support they need to work as effectively as they can. Personal & career development is a huge part of our culture, and you’ll be responsible for getting the best out of each and every member of your team, empowering them to achieve their individual goals and ambitions. BT operates in a heavily regulated environment, where Health & Safety is our highest priority, which means a conscientious and vigilant approach is vital in this role. We’re also delivering an ambitious transformation plan, and a key part of the role will be both understanding and guiding your team through change, as well as bringing them along on the journey and getting them involved.
This role is field based & requires driving across North Yorkshire (Leeds, Bradford, York)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
