HG Law LLP (HG) is a fast-growing full-service IP law firm with offices in London, New York City and San Jose. At HG, we specialize in building patent portfolios that impact and drive our client's business. Our clients, who come to us from a vast array of engineering sectors, have come to rely on HG's technical know-how and understanding to support their success.

HG Law LLP is seeking a part-qualified or just qualified European Patent Attorney with a mechanical engineering (or other engineering) background to join our London team. This role is for someone who's rolled their sleeves up, metaphorically and literally too. We want someone who's genuinely curious about how things are built. Ideally, you have at some point taken something apart and (mostly) put it back together again. We are looking for someone who is genuinely curious about how things are built and who enjoys working with inventors to protect innovative ideas.

Applicants should have the ability to commute regularly to the London office.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute UK and European patent applications across a broad range of mechanical and engineering technologies.
  • Work closely with inventors, engineers, internal counsel, and clients to understand inventions and develop patent strategies.
  • Advise clients on patentability, infringement, and portfolio strategy.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain high standards of technical accuracy and drafting quality.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
