Patent Formalities Officer

Location: London (Hybrid)
Hours: Full Time - 37.5 hours

The Position

Our London office is home to a dynamic, fast-paced Patent team supporting clients across life sciences, chemistry, electronics, software and engineering. With demanding and fast-evolving requirements, we rely on exceptional accuracy, organisation and attention to detail. As a Patent Formalities Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality, timely and reliable formalities service, supporting fee-earners and contributing to the smooth running of a busy, highly valued team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support for the filing and prosecution of UK, European, International (PCT) and other national patent applications.
  • Ensure all patent deadlines are met with absolute accuracy, complying with legal and fee requirements for each jurisdiction.
  • Prepare, execute and, where necessary, legalise documentation required to support patent filings and registrations.
  • Liaise proactively with attorneys and stakeholders to progress actions and ensure timely completion of case tasks.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of patent law and formalities procedures across key filing countries to deliver a professional, informed service to clients.

About You

You will bring proven experience across the full range of UK, European and international patent formalities, along with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail when working under pressure. Confident in using your own judgement, you’ll ensure clients’ applications are processed appropriately while maintaining a highly organised and efficient approach to your workload. You’ll be able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment and collaborate positively as a supportive team player. Having the CIPA patent administrator qualification would be a significant benefit.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
