An exciting opportunity to join our Patents Team as a Paralegal in our London office on a 12-month fixed term contract.

About The Role

At CMS we pride ourselves on providing industry leading training, guidance, support and variety of workload to ensure our paralegals are in the best possible environment to learn and develop.

The aim for all of our patent paralegal team is to become “full service”, with technical knowledge extended across the whole range of patent prosecution activities and related support. There are opportunities to tackle a wide range of tasks across all of our clients, from European, PCT and United Kingdom applications to handling foreign patents, assignments and helping to design client processes.

Teamwork and communication are a huge part of making our working model efficient and high performing. Paralegal feedback is encouraged, reviewed and, where we see value, is implemented into our process refinements.

The successful candidate can therefore look forward to really being a part of shaping how we operate in the future. We believe that the team’s ideas and feedback are fundamental to us continually moving forward in the best way possible.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
