An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Planned Care Core Validation Team for a Patient Pathway Validator/Tracker. This role will support the delivery of high-quality patient pathway validation and tracking processes across the organisation. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring that RTT pathways are accurately recorded, actively managed, and compliant with national NHS standards and guidance.
Working closely with the Validation Manager and operational services, the Pathway Tracker will lead on validating patient pathway data, ensuring the integrity of RTT clock starts, stops and pathway statuses. This role is integral to maintaining reliable performance reporting, supporting service delivery, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The postholder will require strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical, administrative and informatics teams to resolve pathway inconsistencies and improve data quality.
Main duties of the job
- Undertake routine and ad hoc patient pathway validation, ensuring RTT clock accuracy, pathway status integrity, and completeness of data across systems.
- Actively track and monitor patient pathways, identifying overdue pathways, validation gaps and risks to RTT compliance.
- Provide day-to-day support, guidance and supervision to Validation Clerks
- Investigate pathway discrepancies, data anomalies and validation failures, working with clinical and administrative teams to establish root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate recording and maintenance of key RTT events (e.g. clock starts, pauses, stops, and pathway adjustments).
- Maintain clear audit trails and documentation to evidence validation activity and compliance with internal controls and external assurance requirements.
- Liaise with clinical, operational, informatics and scheduling teams to promote consistent understanding of patient pathway rules and data quality standards.
- Assist in PTL management processes, ensuring pathways are actively validated ahead of reporting and operational reviews.
- Contribute to the production of pathway validation reports, performance summaries and exception reports for senior management.
- Monitor compliance with national RTT standards, identifying risks to performance and escalating concerns appropriately.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma Level Qualification in Administrative Related Field (or equivalent level of experience)
- English Language and Maths GCSE Standard
Desirable criteria
- ECDL
- Stage 2 Word Processing and or Typewriting

- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels
- Flexible to meet the needs of the service
- Self-Motivated
- Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
Experience
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of current Referral To Treatment/Cancer Targets
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience of data handling including sourcing, collecting and interrogating of information
- Experience of interaction with all levels of staff
Desirable criteria
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Packages particularly Excel
- Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and achieve deadlines
- Ability to set up new working processes
Desirable criteria
- Ability to speak Welsh
