Patient Safety Partner
Patient Safety Partners (PSPs) are independent members of the public who use their lived experience of healthcare to work alongside Trust staff to improve patient safety, quality of care and organisational learning.
The PSP provides constructive challenge, scrutiny and support across patient safety activities, ensuring that the perspectives of patients, families and carers remain central to decision making, investigations and improvement work. Working as a critical friend, the PSP contributes to a culture of openness, transparency and continuous learning across South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb).
Governance and Assurance
- Attend Quality and Patient Safety Committee (QPSC) meetings as a Patient Safety Partner.
- Review committee papers and reports before meetings.
- Provide independent challenge and constructive feedback from a patient perspective.
- Promote transparency, openness and patient-centred decision making.
- Highlight opportunities to improve patient safety and patient experience.

Patient Safety Incident Investigations
- Contribute to Patient Safety Incident Investigations in accordance with PSIRF.
- Review investigation Terms of Reference.
- Support investigation planning where appropriate.
- Participate as an Expert by Experience during interviews where agreed.
- Review draft investigation reports.
- Assess reports for accessibility, readability and sensitivity.
- Ensure investigation findings reflect the experiences of patients and families.
- Help identify opportunities for organisational learning and improvement.
