Position Summary
Scheduled Hours: 40 Coordinates and implements patient safety and quality improvement (PSQI) activities for a designated service.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Works in partnership with department patient safety and quality improvement (PSQI) leadership to develop, implement, and monitor strategic plans focused on patient safety and clinical effectiveness.
- Aligns divisional goals with the overall departmental vision for patient safety and quality outcomes.
- Coordinates:
- Data collection and tracking for safety and clinical effectiveness.
- Implementation, analysis, and presentation of results from quality improvement projects.
- Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and patient care teams to foster a culture of safety and enhance clinical effectiveness.
- Reviews quality and patient safety data to identify high-risk areas of standard deviation and works with clinical teams to develop remediation plans.
- Attends Patient Safety and Quality meetings, including division and departmental sessions.
- Collaborates with other patient safety, quality, and performance improvement professionals to share best practices.
- Provides education and training to nurses, physicians, administrative staff, and other clinical departments on:
- Usage of the Research Management System (RMS).
- Strategies for improving patient safety and clinical quality outcomes.
Working Conditions
- Location/Environment: Normal office setting with exposure to blood-borne pathogens; may include a direct patient care environment.
- Physical Demands:
- Typically involves sitting at a desk or standing/walking.
- Minimal bending/crouching/stooping required.
- Occasional lifting (>25 lbs).

Required Qualifications
- Education: No formal degree, diploma, or certification is mandated.
- Certifications/Licenses:
Current eligibility in one of the following:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure from either:
- Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
- or Missouri Division of Professional Registration (regulated by the Nursing Licensure Compact). ⚠️ Note: Online-only BLS certifications lacking hands-on skills assessments are not sufficient.
- Experience:
- 2 years of clinical nursing experience (post-graduation from an accredited program).
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: No additional educational requirements unless specified.
- Certifications/Licenses: None listed beyond the base qualifications.
- Experience: None listed beyond requirements.
- Skills:
- Clinical Development, Clinical Research Coordination, Clinical Research Management
- Familiarity with complex systems, database management, and Electronic Health Records (Epic EHR).
- Statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS).
- Spreadsheet proficiency for analysis.
- Research development and training expertise.
Position Details
- Grade: S26
- Annual Salary Range: $64,500.00 – $109,900.00 Salary determined by qualifications, performance, equity, and market rates.
