Patient Transport Controller

SSC Secure Transport Ltd

Location: Enfield, London — full-time, on site

Pay: £15.90 per hour

Shift pattern: 07:00–19:00, 4 on, 4 off, including weekends and public holidays

About us

SSC Secure Transport Ltd is a specialist secure ambulance provider supporting children, young people and adults with mental health conditions and complex care needs. We work alongside the NHS, private hospitals, local authorities and other partner agencies to provide safe, reliable and compassionate transport, treating every patient with dignity and respect.

About the role

We’re looking for a proactive, organised Patient Transport Controller to join our Enfield operations team. You’ll coordinate daily patient journeys, support ambulance crews and communicate with hospitals and healthcare partners. You’ll need to manage changing priorities, solve problems and remain calm in a busy operational environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Receive and process transport bookings accurately.
  • Plan journeys and dispatch ambulance crews efficiently.
  • Monitor journeys and adjust plans as operational needs change.
  • Confirm booking details, relevant risk information and required documentation.
  • Maintain clear communication with crews, hospitals and partner agencies.
  • Keep journey records and internal systems accurate and up to date.
  • Monitor crew availability and identify staffing or resource shortfalls.
  • Escalate incidents, safeguarding concerns and operational issues promptly.
  • Report vehicle defects, breakdowns or accidents to the Fleet Manager.
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment checks are completed and recorded.
  • Follow company procedures for patient safety and confidentiality.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management.
  • Confidence managing multiple priorities and making decisions under pressure.
  • Good computer skills and accurate data entry.
  • A professional, flexible and reliable approach.
  • The ability to work independently and contribute positively to a team.
  • A willingness to learn and complete relevant training.
  • Previous experience is not essential — training will be provided. Experience in transport control, dispatch, healthcare or logistics would be an advantage.
