Part Time / 22.5 Hours Per Week / Permanent
Play a key role in ensuring employees of Leicester City Council are paid accurately and on time. The Pay and Benefits team are made up of professional, highly skilled officers who are dedicated to supporting managers and employees with pay and pension queries. We action statutory and voluntary deductions as well as employee benefits for new starters, leavers, and process contract changes. Working in friendly and supportive team, you’ll receive an initial period of training and be supported by the Team Leader.
This is a part time, permanent post working 22.5 hours per week. This role is based at City Hall, Leicester with a Hybrid working agreement of two days office-based, remainder remote.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Day to day you’ll process changes to employee records including changing hours, salary, and positions to ensure staff are paid in accordance with their contracts.
- Working collaboratively within a small team of 9 officers, you’ll liaise daily via teams and generic email accounts.
- You’ll process monthly payrolls to ensure all work is managed correctly so all employees are paid correctly.
- You’ll investigate and respond to queries received via phone or emails, providing sound advice in respect of terms and conditions of employment e.g., maternity/paternity/adoptions leave entitlement.

What You’ll Need
- You’ll have experience of large-scale payroll processing, preferably within Local Government, although full training will be provided.
- A team player, you’ll be enthusiastic to working within a team to ensure a high quality and efficient service is provided to members of the public, external organisations as well as employees and managers.
- A problem solver, with good attention to detail, you’ll be able to use your own initiative to resolve queries and ensure accurate payroll records are maintained.
- Highly organised, you’ll manage your own workload, prioritise tasks to meet monthly deadlines.
