Payment Operations Manager
Location: Manchester
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
A leading global financial services organisation is looking for an experienced Payment Operations Manager to join its growing operations function in Manchester.
This is a key role responsible for overseeing payment operations, client service and day-to-day operational delivery within a fast-paced financial services environment. The successful candidate will have strong experience across payments or cash operations, combined with the ability to manage client relationships, improve processes and work effectively across multiple teams.
The Role
As Payment Operations Manager, you will take responsibility for ensuring payment activity is delivered accurately, efficiently and to a high standard, while acting as a key point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders.
The role will involve:
- Managing and overseeing payment and cash processing activities, ensuring transactions are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Taking ownership of operational issues and escalations, working with internal teams to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
- Building strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders, understanding their requirements and ensuring a consistently high level of service.
- Monitoring operational performance and identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and service delivery.
- Working closely with teams across operations, technology, risk and client services to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.
- Supporting the implementation of new processes, systems and technology to improve the overall payment operation.
- Ensuring processes operate in line with relevant regulatory requirements, internal controls and risk management standards.
- Using operational data and MI to identify trends, address issues and drive continuous improvement.
- Contributing to a culture of accountability, collaboration and operational excellence.

About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong experience within payment operations, cash operations or financial services operations.
- Previous experience managing or overseeing payment processing activity within a regulated financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of payment processes, controls and operational risk.
- Experience working with clients, institutional customers, wealth managers or other financial services stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, with the confidence to deal with senior stakeholders and resolve escalations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to improving processes and service delivery.
- Experience working across multiple teams and functions in a complex operational environment.
- A genuine interest in using technology, automation, data and AI to improve operational efficiency.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
