Role Description
As part of the Payments Strategy & Insight team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of Payments by turning data, market intelligence and industry knowledge into clear, practical strategic direction. You’ll use curiosity, sound judgement and a strong understanding of the Society Blueprint to identify what matters most, connecting performance insight with customer needs, regulatory change, technology developments and wider market trends.
You’ll be responsible for developing high-quality insight that helps Payments and senior stakeholders make informed decisions. This includes supporting the development and refresh of the Payments Strategy, identifying opportunities and risks, and translating complex information into clear recommendations that can be acted on. You’ll look across internal performance, external developments and emerging themes to build a rounded view of where Payments is today, where it needs to go next and what choices will help deliver better outcomes for members and the Society.
A core part of the role will be creating clear, engaging outputs that bring insight to life. You’ll produce reporting, papers, presentations and executive-ready materials that explain performance, highlight priorities and set out recommended actions for senior leadership, Executive and Board-level audiences. Your work will need to be accurate, well-structured and easy to understand, helping colleagues move quickly from analysis to decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You’ll also challenge how Payments uses data, reporting and insight, looking for ways to make outputs sharper, more consistent and more impactful. Using tools such as Power BI, Excel and PowerPoint, you’ll analyse and visualise information in a way that supports better conversations and stronger strategic choices. Alongside this, you’ll build effective relationships across Payments and the wider organisation, gathering input, testing assumptions and sharing insight in a way that builds confidence and alignment.
Success in this role will come from combining analytical rigour with strong communication and delivery discipline. You’ll be expected to manage assigned work to a high standard, meet agreed deadlines and take ownership of outputs from initial thinking through to final delivery. Above all, you’ll help turn insight into action, supporting Payments to anticipate change, make better decisions and deliver outcomes that are aligned to the Society’s priorities.
