UK Payments Scheme SME | Financial Services
We are supporting a major financial services programme and are seeking experienced UK Payments Scheme SMEs with expertise in Bacs, Faster Payments (FPS) and/or CHAPS.
This is a specialist advisory role focused on scheme knowledge, operational processes, and implementation considerations. The successful candidate will work closely with Business Analysts, Product Teams, and programme stakeholders, providing expert guidance on how UK domestic payment schemes operate and what organisations must consider when delivering payment capabilities through a sponsor bank model.
This is not a project management, transformation, or delivery role. We are specifically looking for recognised payments experts who can advise on scheme mechanics, operational requirements, and industry best practice.
What You'll Be Doing
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for Bacs, Faster Payments, and/or CHAPS.
- Advise stakeholders on payment scheme mechanics, operating models, and implementation considerations.
- Support discovery, requirements gathering, and solution design activities.
- Provide expertise on sponsor bank and indirect participation models.
- Review proposed solutions and ensure alignment with industry standards and scheme requirements.
- Support Business Analysts, Product Owners, Architects, and technical teams throughout delivery.
- Explain payment flows, message processing, operational controls, and participant responsibilities.
- Provide knowledge transfer and specialist guidance across programme teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
