Payments Programme Manager - Portfolio Lead, Payments, Debit Card, Modernisation, Current Account Switching Service, Fraud, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Real-Time, end to end UK Payments, Financial Services
Permanent - Up to £130,000 Base + Bonus
My client, an exciting UK Digital Bank, is urgently looking for a Programme Manager to join their London based office on a permanent basis. This is a hybrid role, and you will be required in the office 3 days per week (in the City).
This is an exciting opportunity to run and lead the Payments Portfolio, managing all programmes and projects within this space. They currently have a lot of change within the portfolio, including Debit Card Modernisation, Current Account Switching Services, Digital Channel integration and platform enhancements. You would be managing the team of Project Managers, providing strategic oversight as well as being in the technical detail where necessary, so a full end to end understanding of Payments is needed. Due to the nature of the bank, they have a lot of 3rd party suppliers and integration in the platforms too, so stakeholder engagement and vendor management will play an important part in this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
