Payroll Officer Part-time Location: Southampton / Hybrid - 30 hours per week
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our team on a part-time permanent contract at Newsquest Media Group, one of the UK’s leading media companies. This role is ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong organisational skills, and experience in payroll or a related administrative role.
As part of our payroll team, you will ensure the accurate and timely processing of monthly and lunar payrolls, reconciliations, and third-party payments while ensuring compliance with payroll regulations.
There will be an expectation to work from the Southampton office with the team, with remaining hours to be worked from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality payroll service, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Manage monthly and lunar payrolls, including BACS processing and HMRC submissions.
- Reconcile payroll data and process third-party payments.
- Support pension auto-enrolment assessments and compliance.
- Ensure payroll risk controls and procedures are followed.
- Collaborate with colleagues to meet payroll deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to best practices in payroll processing.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience working in payroll or a strong administrative background with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of PAYE, NI, statutory payments (SMP, SSP), and pension auto-enrolment.
- Understanding of court orders, deduction orders, and benefits in kind is beneficial.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
