Payroll and Pensions Administrator

Sewell Wallis is working exclusively with a growing, PE-backed business based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, who are looking to add a Payroll and Pensions Administrator to their team on an initial 6 month fixed term contract. This role will support both day-to-day payroll operations and the resolution of historic pension administration issues.

Alongside ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time, the successful candidate will play a key role in improving payroll processes, supporting payroll controls, resolving employee queries and working through historic pension matters requiring investigation and reconciliation.

The role will involve close collaboration with operational managers, HR, Finance, pension providers and external payroll partners to improve data quality, strengthen compliance and ensure accurate records are maintained.

This is an excellent opportunity for somebody who enjoys both routine payroll administration and investigative work, with the ability to identify issues, establish root causes and drive resolutions.

What will you be doing?

  • Process starters, leavers, contractual changes and employee amendments accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Process variations including overtime, enhancements, sickness, maternity, paternity and other statutory payments.
  • Support monthly payroll preparation and validation processes.
  • Complete payroll checks before submission and identify anomalies requiring investigation.
  • Act as a key point of contact for employee and manager payroll queries.
  • Investigate payroll discrepancies and provide timely resolutions.
  • Administer workplace pension processes accurately and on time.
  • Support monthly pension contribution submissions.
  • Liaise with pension providers regarding employee queries and contribution issues.
  • A significant part of the role will involve supporting the resolution of historical pension matters.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Investigating historical pension administration issues.
  • Reconciling payroll records against pension provider records.
  • Identifying missing, duplicate or incorrect pension contributions.
  • Reviewing historical payroll and pension data to establish root causes of discrepancies.
  • Working with Finance and external providers to correct records where appropriate.
  • Supporting responses to pension regulator, auditor or provider enquiries.
  • Producing clear audit trails and supporting evidence for any corrective actions taken.
  • Maintaining an issues log and ensuring actions are tracked through to completion.
  • Supporting the implementation of improved pension controls and procedures.

What skills are we looking for?

  • Previous payroll administration experience.
  • Experience working with payroll systems in a medium or large organisation.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and statutory payments.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Experience dealing with confidential information.
