About The Role
The Payroll Advisor role is a vital position within an established manufacturing business based in the West Midlands. This is a full-time, permanent position designed for a highly skilled payroll professional who is confident managing the entire payroll cycle from start to finish. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring payroll processes are accurate, compliant, and completed within strict deadlines. In addition to payroll responsibilities, the role offers the opportunity to support wider HR functions, including employee lifecycle management, HR administration, and recruitment support. This dual focus provides a dynamic and engaging work environment where your payroll expertise will be at the core, complemented by broader HR exposure.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in a payroll-focused role, demonstrating excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy. You should possess a good understanding of payroll legislation, PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, and compliance requirements. Experience working with payroll and HR systems, such as IRIS or similar platforms, is essential. You should have the confidence to handle payroll calculations, manage employee and manager queries, and work efficiently under strict deadlines. Additional qualifications such as CIPD or payroll-related certifications are desirable. Previous experience liaising with external payroll providers and supporting HR functions like recruitment, onboarding, and employee record management will be advantageous.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
